About the Program
Upon its birth in June 1999, the University of the Philippines Mindanao BS Architecture Program initially adopted the curriculum of the BS Architecture Program of the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Architecture (UPCA). After three years, the inclusion of the RGEP courses introduced minor revisions in the Program's curriculum.
In 2006, the BS Architecture Program in UP Mindanao underwent a comprehensive review of its curriculum to effectively respond to the evolving industry needs, national and international standards, as well as the carving of a niche in the local context. After the rigorous process, a new curriculum was approved by the UP System’s Board of Regents (BOR) on 30 March 2009 implemented in the 1st Semester AY 2009-2010.
The Program has achieved notable accomplishments through its research, teaching and service profiles, externally through the consistent Architecture Licensure Exam 100 % passing rate with its annual top-notch place, and the employment and professional practice profiles. These paved the way to the Institution of the UP Mindanao Department of Architecture on 4 June 2012 during the 1280th meeting of the University of the Philippines Board of Regents.
At the end of the program, the student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate mastery of comprehensive architectural knowledge of man regarding his environment, in both theory and practice;
2. Create an architectural design applying the analytical and scientific processes that are relevant to the socio-economic make-up of the users, with the goal of understanding the relationship between man and his environment;
3. Demonstrate academic excellence in Architecture by being receptive to new ideas and knowledge through systematic research, both creative and scientific;
4. Develop holistic solutions using architectural knowledge and technical proficiency; and
5. Create built-forms that show an interplay of people’s habitat and environment so that they do not become detrimental to the cultural heritage and aspirations of the Filipino.
